One symbol that plays on behalf of the others

Wild is the reels' joker: it steps in for a missing symbol and turns an incomplete row into a paying one. In practice it's the slot's cheapest way to increase hit frequency without changing the rest of the math — which is why you'll find it of 45 of the catalog's 58 Medusa-slots. In the Gorgon theme the wild role is usually taken by Medusa herself, a shield or a petrified face.

Not all wilds are the same, and the difference is felt more in gameplay than in the numbers. Sticky wild (13 games) remain on the grid for the following spins and form chains. Random wild (10 games) are dropped onto the reels unconditionally during the base game. Multiplier wild (5 games) indicates the value of the payline, and walking wild (3 games) shifts from reel to reel on each spin. In addition, in 3 games the wild spreads to neighboring positions and in 7 games there are separately listed substitute symbols alongside the wild.

Wild usually does not substitute scatter or bonus symbols, so of free spins it does not help with the trigger. The wild type also does not directly affect the return percentage: you can only see that from the game's own RTP notation.
